OBJECTIVES The seminar will look at "chronic" issues in pleading as well as more recent ones such as the new Sheriff Court Rules, Human Rights and recent case law.

Often criticised and seldom taught, written pleadings have a fundamental role in civil proceedings in the Sheriff Court.  However, despite this, most practitioners receive little training on how to plead and require to hone their skills following many rounds in the debate court ... or worse on appeal.

This seminar seeks to examine the law and practice of written pleadings from a practical point of view, and will involve 'hands on' workshops making particular reference to both pursuers' and defenders' perspectives in a reparation case.

PARTICIPANTS The seminar will be of most benefit to solicitors with some experience of written pleadings but will also be of interest to those who want to know what its all about!  Some advance preparation will help you get the most from this event, and further information will be sent to registered participants.

SPEAKERS The speakers panel will include, Kenneth Campbell, Advocate.  He will deliver the keynote speech.  He specialises in professional negligence, reparation and general civil practice as well as having a lot of commercial drafting experience.  He runs the Written Pleadings portion of the Faculty of Advocates "Devils" training.  Other speakers include Donald Campbell, Advocate, Walter Mercer, Advocate.
