OBJECTIVES This is a new seminar aimed primarily at all unqualified staff who are involved in Sheriff Court litigation. It is intended to provide guidance and training on the basic rules of procedure in order to assist those who may be involved in handling such actions now or may be expecting to do so in the future. It is intended to provide explanations and insights into the way in which the procedures operate in practice. It will address practical issues which might arise in the daily handling of cases and the interaction with clients, opponents, and the courts.
It will cover procedure and practice ordinary (non family), summary cause and small claim actions in the Sheriff Court only. It will explain:
- The Scottish court system
- The different procedures available
- The basic rules
- The way they operate in practice
- The necessary formalities
- Effective and efficient handling of cases
- Common problems - and how to solve them
There will be ample opportunity for attendees to raise and discuss particular issues which might interest them.
PARTICIPANTS This seminar will benefit those who work in law offices or agencies which are involved in sheriff court proceedings, trainees, paralegals and indeed anyone who has an interest in how the sheriff court procedures are intended to work - and, more importantly, how they do work.
