OBJECTIVES Community groups, charities and other voluntary organisations are increasingly being forced to consider more complex and legal structures. In part this is due to the difficult financial climate and in part it is due to increasing expectations of professionalism.
The objectives of the seminar are to discuss the main features of typical legal structures, to explain the administrative work that arises in the case of a company limited by guarantee (including records and returns), and to discuss charitable status. An overview of the new charities framework will be provided. The seminar will focus on the legal responsibilities of directors and company secretaries. It will be an update on current law and practice.
PARTICIPANTS This seminar is will be of interest to company secretaries, treasurers, directors, members of management committees as well as to paid staff. The seminar is essential for all those managing any voluntary organisation with significant financial commitments.
SPEAKER The speaker is Graeme Palmer, Associate Solicitor, Burness LLP, Solicitors, Glasgow. Mr. Palmer has extensive expertise in the field of charities, community business and the voluntary sector.
