How to get advice

By making a referral for an appointment

  • The department discusses referrals weekly on a Friday morning to make sure individuals fall within its projects and that it is able to offer an appointment.
  • If you wish the department to provide advice on this basis, please get in touch by completing client referral form and returning it by email, fax or post (contact details are noted on the form).   A member of staff will get back to you/your request as soon as possible.

 By calling the advice line

  • Asylum and Immigration Queries - Tuesday, 2-4pm - call freephone 0800 316 8450 or 0141 353 3354 to speak to a lawyer free of charge
By attending the drop in surgery

What to bring

Please try to bring the following when meeting with a lawyer from the department:

  • Proof of identity such as your passport, driving licence, ARC card
  • Proof of where you are living such as a letter to your address
  • Details of your income in the 7 days before your appointment.  This may be a letter about Income Support or a wage slip

The department can only provide advice if you fit within one of its projects and you are not already getting advice from a lawyer on the same matter.
