OBJECTIVES This seminar will include the following areas:

    • To demystify for the General Practitioner the uses of difficult types of Trusts
    • To illustrate the different types of Trust vehicles which can be used including the specific purposes for which particular types of Trust might be more useful
    • To consider the Tax profiles of the different types of Trust which might be used
    • To point out possible "risk areas" to Practitioners in setting up a Trust
    • To consider possible legislative chanes in the fields of Scottish Trust Law

PARTICIPANTS This seminar is aimed at general practitioners who might find themselves increasingly requested not only to assist clients with the preparation of Wills but also to advise in relation to Tax Mitigation.  In particular, the seminar is aimed at Practitioners who do not specialise in Executry work but who may be regularly invited by clients to make Wills or to suggest methods for the financial protection of young or incapacitated Beneficiaries.  The seminar is also suitable for paralegals involved in private client work including drafting Wills for clients.

SPEAKER The speaker is John Kerrigan, Partner, Morisons (formerly Maxwell MacLaurin).  Mr. Kerrigan has been a Partner at Morisons for twenty-six years.  He is also a Tutor at the Glasgow Graduate School of Law based at Strathclyde University in the subjects of Wills, Trusts & Succession.  He is a Member of the Securities and Investment Institute and has recently published the second edition of his book "Drafting for Succession".
